Seafarers with Designated Security Duties

This course covers the mandatory training requirements for the issue of a Certificate of Proficiency in Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties, as set out in Regulation VI/6, Para 4 & 5, Section A-VI/6, Para 6-8, Table A-VI/6-2 of the STCW 1978 as amended 2010. On successful completion of this course the participants will acquire the necessary knowledge, understanding and proficiency required to undertake Designated Security Duties in relation to knowledge of current security threats and patterns, recognition and detection of weapons, dangerous substances and devices, recognition of persons who are likely to threaten security, techniques used to circumvent security measures, crowd management and control techniques, security related communications, emergency procedures and contingency plans, operation of security equipment and systems, inspection, control and monitoring techniques and methods of physical searches of persons, personal effects, baggage, cargo and ship’s stores.
